Last month I was beyond excited to attend my first ever Q & A event for a movie. It was virtual but still a pure joy and a blessing to be invited. I have dreamed of this moment for many years. Along with being my first movie event, it was made even more special because it was for the movie Clifford the Big Red Dog.
Like many people, I grew up reading the Clifford books and when my son was born they were a daily must-read. Not to mention my son just happens to be named Clifford it truly felt as if the stars aligned to bring this moment to me.
Along with getting to interview two of the stars of the movie Darby Camp and Jack Whitehall. I was treated to an early viewing of the movie and well it was pretty awesome in my opinion.
3 Lesson Clifford the Big Red Dog Taught Me
Lesson 1 – Be You
When we first meet Emily Elizabeth she is struggling with who she is. Being the new kid in school and in the neighborhood, she feels alone. But then Uncle Casey and Clifford come into her life and soon she learns that she is not alone.
When they get in trouble the whole neighborhood comes to her aid. She realizes that being herself and being kind has made her part of a community. She has friends, family, and of course Clifford.
Lesson 2 – Family is Important
When Uncle Casey first comes to stay with Emily and help care for her while her mom is away Emily isn’t too happy. She feels Casey is not capable of caring for her and doesn’t like his carefree attitude.
However soon Emily learns that it’s his carefree attitude is exactly what she needs to teach her to be herself. She learns just how much he loves her and her mom by hearing how much her mom gave up to keep Casey near. Uncle Casey teaches Emily that family is everything and we should love them for who they are not who we want them to be.
Lesson 3- Love Big
When Emily first adopts Clifford he is a small pup. But she learns quickly the more she loves him the bigger he gets till he is well a big red dog. Loving someone or something fully and unconditionally will cause your heart to grow.
As Emily, Casey, Clifford, and their friend all learn to love and support one another they learn love can overcome anything. From loneliness to a bad guy. I learned through Emily loving someone or something with your whole heart makes them essential to your life. Much like Emily loving Clifford the Big Red Dog when my son was born my heart grew as did my love as he grew. Loving big is easy when you love unconditionally.
