I admit I love a good Disney movie.
Disney has a unique way of creating wonderful movies that the family can enjoy together. They also have a beautiful way of weaving in life lessons that both kids and adults can learn from. For me, I learn something valuable every time I watch a Disney movie.
Getting to watch Turning Red was no different. this movie has so many layers to it from growing up to being an adult. The lessons Disney weaved into this story are timeless and each time I watch it I discover a new one. However today I want to share the three I value the most.
Spoiler Alert ahead!!!
3 Valuable Life Lessons I Learned From Turning Red Movie
Lesson 1 – Being an Adult Means Having Responsibilities
When we met Mei at the beginning of the movie she is telling everyone how she is an adult and can do anything she wants. However soon she admits she has responsibilities like helping her mom at the temple.
The truth is if you are going to call yourself an adult then know you need to also take responsibility for your actions and words. Being an adult doesn’t mean you can do anything you want. It means taking responsibility for what you do and say. If you want a new car then you need to be responsible and work for it.
Lesson 2 – Be True to Yourself
Mei gets caught up in being the perfect daughter and friend. She wants so badly to please her family and her friends that she forgets what makes her happy. When things begin to pile on she explodes and it hurts everyone.
Be true to yourself. Do the things that make you happy. You can help others, you can enjoy the things they like but always be true to yourself. If you enjoy dancing don’t let others tell you it’s not possible. For me, it’s my love of travel. People tell me again and again that Ic can’t travel with Ms but I love it and I do it. I even started to help others with my Etsy shop that I am filling with resource guides as I learn.
Lesson 3 – It’s Okay To Be Different
In the movie, Mei learns that the women in her family have the power to release the Red Panda. It was a gift given to them long ago. However, the women in her family lost control so they separated themself from their panda. Mei’s mom expects her to do the same to follow in the footsteps of the other women in her family. Mei is not so sure she wants to and ultimately decides to keep her panda.
It’s okay to be different and to follow your own path. There are no rules saying you have to be exactly like everyone else. Do you. Be the person you want to be. The truth is when following the road less traveled that’s when the magic happens. You don’t have to be anyone but yourself. Plus being different can be fun.
