Fun Easy Ways To Beat The Summer Heat

Summer is here and it’s hot. The summer heat is jsut unbearable. I’m talking so hot I’m not sure even Hades would want to hang out.

If you have spent any time in Florida you know our summers can get very stifling. Between the heat index and humidity no one really wants to be outside for long. Now add to that this year a raging pandemic and not being able to go many many places and when you do wearing a mask that makes it even more uncomfortable. Well then staying home becomes a fun thing.

Now I know as parents we do not want our children sitting around staring at their screens all day. I also know that being outside it way too hot with the summer heat. So with the help of some pretty awesome kids and some inspirations from fellow moms I have come up with a fun list of activities for everyone to enjoy no matter your age.

Fun Easy Ways To Beat The Summer Heat

Water Balloons

Gather up the kids and fill up some balloons and enjoy a little fun with that requires you to get wet. Water balloon fights are a classic summer activity and appeal to everyone.  If you feel your child isn’t old enough we came up with a swap for the balloons. Get yourself a bunch of dollar sponges and get them wet for little ones to toss. Other options is a homemade slip and slide with trash bags or even simply fill up buckets with water to toss at one another. Any type of water play can be fun.

Games

Play board games. This is a great way to have some family time. You can pick games that are age-appropriate and everyone can join in. This is also a wonderful way for older kids to help teach younger kids.  It is a box full of fun for everyone. One of our favorites is UNO. We love playing this as a family and are very competitive about winning.

Fun with Science

Have some fun with science or sensory activities. There is nothing more fun than making a volcano or making sugar crystals. Even a batch of slime to play with can be a fun time and a learning experience for the kids.

Ice Cream Social or Dessert Bar

Pick up your favorite ice cream  and have an ice cream social. Create a yummy dessert bar. Let the kids or adults get creative with toppings and flavors. For added fun name your creation. Need some inspiration for dessert bars or ice cream bars my friend Cutefetti has lots of fun ideas.

Movie Fun

Make your own drive-in movie theater. I remember as a kid growing summer nights were for drive-in movies. SO why not make your own. All you need is an empty cardboard box and some fun printable you can download HERE. If you have older kids move the furniture and lay out a blanket. Then pop some popcorn, grab some movie candy, and sit back for movie fun. Plus you can pick up these cute popcorn buckets at a dollar store or craft store to really get that movie theater feel. The best part is everyone gets a turn picking their favorite movie to watch.
