Important Things To Know About Disney During A Pandemic

Let’s face it things have changed with this pandemic. The way we use to do things has changed including how we enjoy Disney.

Most of you know that I’m a huge Disney fan. I refer to myself as a Disney Mom and last year I became an affiliate Disney travel agent with Academy Travels and Mickey Vacations. When Disney reopened in July I was so excited, cautious, and yes nervous because I knew things had changed.

I admit that when I first thought of going back to Disney I was a wee bit anxious. I wasn’t sure what to expect and I knew that safety was of the utmost importance. But once I arrive I felt safe, happy, and completely at home. I was so impressed by all the safety measures Disney had taken.

Important Things To Know About Disney During A Pandemic

Now I know You may be thinking visit Disney during a pandemic but what about crowd control, social distancing, and face mask. Well Disney has it all worked out let me explain.

Hotels

When arriving at your hotel whether it’s a value resort or a deluxe check-in can be done via the My Disney Experience App. or via your account on the Disney World website. Once you arrive at Disney you will get a push notification when your room is ready and you simply head there. You can open your door via the app or your magic band that is linked to your app. This allows you to bypass the front desk.

Along with direct to room check-in, the rooms are thoroughly cleaned. Even the remote is cleaned and sealed in plastic so you never have to touch it. Genius!! Housekeeping also cleans all highly touched surfaces thoroughly like soap dispensers, door handles, and even faucet. Pillows are double cased for your safety. Psst!! Don’t tell my husband but I’m pretty sure the rooms at Disney are cleaner than my house because I currently have a stack of laundry waiting.

Along with all the cleaning you can also request to not have housekeeping come by once you are checked in. However should you need towels, trash removed, or anything else they are just a phone call away.

Restaurants and Quick Service

When it comes to eating in the parks or at your resort ordering is done by mobile. This makes ordering easier and safer as you are not having to touch the keypad or exchange cash. IF you prefer to order in person you can but be sure to check in advance to see what type of payments are expected. I admit I got spoiled by mobile ordering because I was able to order food while waiting to ride my favorite ride and then pick it up afterward.

If you have a reservation at say Chef Mickeys you can check-in via mobile app and then wait to be seated. Restaurant offering all you can eat are serving food family style which is pretty awesome because you don’t have to fight the line at the buffet now. I was very impressed by how many sanitizer stations were set up for you to use going in and out of restaurants.

Transportation

Transportation to and from hotels to parks was excellent. Not only were there a limited amount of people on the buses, monorail, and Skyliner but they had assigned seats on the buses so you could implement social distance. The transportation castmembers did an awesome job keeping the line following and making sure people followed the rules.

Parks

Okay, I know what your thinking how were the parks themselves. Well, I’m not gonna lie to you it was different. With no shows or meet and greets and shorter park hours, it was strange. However, the magic was still there.

Safety precools were enforced from temperature checks to making sure everyone wore their mask correctly. I was so impressed by how many sanitizer stations were throughout the parks as well as actual sinks for washing your hands. There were lots of cast members and signs around to help you with social distancing. Along with other safety procedures like plastic dividers in some lines, rides leaving seats between guests and lot of cleaning going on.

Along with crowd control that really proved to be a big change. It was surreal walking down Main Street and seeing fewer people than normal.

Final Thoughts

My overall feelings being back at Disney during this pandemic was that I felt safe. In fact, I felt safer at Disney then I do in my local grocery store because everyone did their part to follow safety protocols. Was it different? Yes for sure but the magic was still there and alive.

There were impromptu mini parades, characters that pop up in different places such as Pooh wandering around the lawn of EPCOT, and my favorite photo pass photographers making magical moments.

I can honestly say now is a perfect time to visit Disney and to plan your vacation for next. After all, the holidays are coming and who wouldn’t love to get a Disney Vacation as a gift.
