It is time to channel your inner superhero. As a mom with MS, I have been called on many times to find inner strength. Much like some of my favorite superheroes I’ve been tested multiple times. This summer will be another test of strength and creativity.
As the world fills with uncertainty from an angry virus. I have chosen to take up the gauntlet and join my fellow moms as camp directors. This summer I will be joining forces with Warner Brothers for their virtual summer camp.
During week one we are learning to channel our inner superhero. With training from Batman and help from the new LEGO® DC: Shazam! Magic and Monsters.
3 Ways To Channel Your Inner Superhero
As a little girl growing up with 6 brothers I learned quickly to be tough. I learned that if I wanted to be one of the boys I would have to prove I could keep up. It was those lessons I learned early on as a child that has served me well in my adult life when faces with what sometimes felt like impossible odds.
I am going to share with you the 3 lessons I learn to channel my inner superhero. These simple tasks help me face each day with strength, kindness, and gratitude.
Stand Like A Superhero
The simple ritual of standing in a power superhero pose such as Superman or Wonder Woman has proven to boost confidence. Research has proven that your body language influences others and even changes the way you see yourself. When you stand tall and powerful you show others your confidence. This not only leads them to see how powerful you are but it also begins to make you feel more powerful. This powerful feeling allows you to take on tasks that you may not otherwise feel you could. Now granted standing like a superhero may not be ideal for hanging with a group of friends or in a meeting. However, taking a few moments in a quiet place to strike a pose will boost your confidence to take on any situation.
Dress Like A Superhero
Now before you jump to conclusions, I am not suggesting you play dress up or run around in tights and a bodysuit. What I am referring to here is the effect that wearing items of clothing can have on your subconscious. It seems that the clothes we wear are proven to affect how we feel and more importantly how we perform in life. According to research, the effect occurs only if you actually know the symbolic meaning of the item you are wearing. The great news is with the power of imagination, you have the ability to give your clothing meaning. If you want to feel more powerful, find an outfit that represents power to you. By dressing as our best selves it seems we end up living it as our truth.
Act Like A Superhero
In the words of Wonder Woman- “no matter how small an act of kindness or generosity or simple positivity you put out into the world, it will make a difference.” If you look at all the great superheroes of the past, they are all connected to a higher purpose. In many ways, they are selfless and put the well being of humanity before their personal needs. Research supports the statement that when we see ourselves as having a greater purpose our happiness, and health are enhanced. The catch is, we are only able to discover our purpose when we step into our truth and accept ourselves for who we really are.
Teaching my children that they hold the greatest superpowers within is important. Powers like kindness, generosity, self-respect, positivity, and strength to stand up for what they believe in. It also helps that they have role models they look up to like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Shazam! We were very excited to watch LEGO® DC: Shazam! Magic and Monsters that is on DVD and digital now.
