Trolls World Tour movie is out on digital now and is making it’s way to Blu-ray and DVD on July 7th. Here at my house rolls have been a favorite for years. Yes, I was one of those kids who had Trolls toys as a kid. I even had those fun pencil toppers that you would rub between your hands to make the hair go crazy. As I look back those were some of my favorite toys growing up.
Fast forward years later and I am having fun introducing my nieces to all things Trolls. In truth what I have loved about bringing the Trolls into my niece’s life is the lessons we can learn from the movies. In this newest movie, there were some very valuable lessons that were taught.
Life Lessons We Can Learn From Trolls World Tour
Accepting and celebrating our differences
Accepting and celebrating our differences was a theme we saw throughout the movie. With Poppy and Branch, they have two very different personalities but they become friends. They also learn that it’s their differences are what they love about each other.
Each of the six troll kingdoms has different musical tastes, but they all come together in the end for the most awesome party ever. Poppy and Barb have more in common than they think they do and may even become friends. We as humans need to learn that it’s our differences that make us unique.
When we are friends with someone learning to respect and love them for their differences is key to a great friendship. One of the best things you can do for a friend is to learn about what they enjoy and love. You don’t have to like it but supporting them and learning to accept it is a huge thing.
Be a better listener and do better as a friend
Poppy is a determined troll. She believes she can make everything okay and in doing so doesn’t listen to anyone. She spends a lot of time arguing with everyone so much so that at one point Biggie ends up leaving. He is disappointed in her leadership he just floats away downriver.
Poppy and Barb see each other as the enemy but while talking about how hard it is to be a good leader they bond. By the time Biggie does return to help Poppy everything is in a huge mess.
It is only when the Trolls start listening to each that anything can be done to put things right. Being a good friend is about being a good listener. When we truly listen and show empathy for others especially our friends we learn. Friends are precious and are a great source of joy, happiness, and strength.
Music brings emotions to life
Poppy says in the movie “Oh, they must not know music is supposed to make you happy. That is awful.” The truth is music can make you feel so many different emotions. It can make you feel happy, sad, or it can bring you solace. One of my favorite quotes ever came from Leo Tolstoy who said “Music is the shorthand of emotion.” I feel this is so on point.
In the movie, the Trolls get their colors from their music. When Poppy releases the Trolls from their zombie-like state by smashing Barb’s guitar their color just disappears. The loss of color saddens all the trolls, especially Barb and Poppy. However, when Cooper hears his heartbeat over the microphone they realize that they each have the power to create music. We all have the power to create our own happiness.
In the end, Poppy makes what was to be one of the most inspiring quotes of the movie in my opinion. She says “Whether your song is sad or heartfelt, loud and defiant, or warm and funky, or even if you’re a little bit of each. It’s all these sounds and all our differences that make the world a richer place. Because you can’t harmonize alone.”
