Now that Disney is slowly reopening and with Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge complete you can experience Black Spire the way it was always intended. The Star Wars-themed expansion to Disney’s Hollywood Studios features two unique attractions and a range of immersive experiences that place you in the world of Star Wars like never before. On January 17 the same will be true at Disneyland when Rise of the Resistance opens on the west coast too. Now that there is no reason to wait any longer to visit the Outer Rim planet of Batuu, here are the top 5 Star Wars land rides and activities you can’t miss.
Join the Resistance
The newest attraction to open at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is phenomenal. Star Wars rides have always been cutting edge at the time they open, but the Rise of the Resistance is both a classic and a breakthrough attraction. The composition of the ride uses tried and true Imagineering tricks and combines several popular Disney rides. The thrilling dark ride involves directional changes such as backward motion as well as up and down. There is a drop ride element as well as a motion simulator element in addition to an immersive walkthrough portion of the ride. Rise of the Resistance does more than telling a story, it puts you front and center in your own Star Wars land Adventure.
Fly the Millennium Falcon
Smugglers Run also puts you in the cockpit of your own exciting Star Wars journey. Far more than a motion simulator, this ride lets you control the Millennium Falcon in real-time. It features one of the best animatronic figures in Disney park history and it gives six guests a chance to either pilot the Millennium Falcon, or become a gunner or engineer.
Have a Drink at the Cantina
No trip to Galaxy’s Edge is complete without a trip to Oga’s Cantina. It’s not the Mos Eisley Cantina, but it’s intricately themed and features several cocktails and nonalcoholic specialty drinks. It’s the Star Wars land activities like this that make Galaxy’s Edge such an enjoyable place to spend some time.
Build Your Light Saber
One of the top must-do Star Wars land experiences is building a lightsaber. First, you have to find the entrance to this hidden workshop where you can build your own lightsaber and even choose the color of your Kyber crystal. As you build your lightsaber based on four distinct styles, you are treated to lore and knowledge of the force which is passed on to you from Gatherers who protect the power of the force and maintain its balance.
Shop in a Galaxy Far Far Away
While some guests may not like how much retail there is at the new Star Wars land, it’s actually very fun shopping around this interplanetary marketplace. Black Spire is full of local crafts and practical souvenirs. You can pick up some artifacts at Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, for instance. You can adopt a creature, or build your very own droid. As you wander the streets of Black Spire, there is always more you can see and do.
What are you looking forward to seeing the most at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge?
