With all of the changes we’ve faced in health and safety, we can expect some degree of significant alterations to the way we experience large public gatherings. Some people are talking about a lasting impact from the pandemic. Bob Iger even referenced 9/11 when addressing potential enhancements to Disney security. Iger specifically called out temperature checks as potentially mandatory for entry into the parks, which makes it more important to stay healthy prior to your Disney World vacation. Of course, temperature checks are far from foolproof, so ways to stay healthy in the Disney parks are just as important for travelers who don’t want to take any nasty viruses home with them.
Eat, Sleep, Exercise
The traditional ways to stay healthy should not be overlooked when we address health and safety in the Disney parks. It’s just as important as ever to maintain a healthy diet, get plenty of rest, and exercise so your body is in the best possible shape. Start exercising before you go to Disney so that you are already conditioned for the level of exertion a day at Disney requires. Avoid fatigue and give your body a fighting chance against any hostile invaders. Herbal supplements for immunity boosts and vitamin C can also help give you an edge and is one of the first ways to stay healthy at the Disney parks.
How to Stay Hydrated
Follow doctors orders and make sure you drink plenty of fluids. Water is the best. Alcohol is not ideal. Limit alcohol consumption because it dehydrates you and it weakens your immune system. Be conscious of your thirst while you are at the parks because once you feel thirst, you are already dehydrated. Make sure you always have a bottle of water handy for a quick, refreshing sip.
How to Keep Your Hands Clean
It’s been a while since I looked, but at one point I think at one point they had sponsorship from a soap company and the sinks all had handwashing instructions on them. Does anybody else remember this? At the time, it seemed funny to me, but now more than ever, it’s important to properly wash your hands. Use warm water, scrub thoroughly with soap for 15 seconds, and rinse. Although it’s not the popular choice, paper towels are more sanitary than electric blowers for drying hands.
One of the changes we expect to see at Disney is more hand sanitizer stations throughout the parks. So, when you see one, use it and try to be aware of how often you touch your face; Especially after touching a handrail, trashcan, etc.
How to Protect Your Face
It may be too early to tell, but one idea that’s been floating around is that there may be mandatory face masks while visiting Disney. Mandatory or not, this could be one of the key ways to stay healthy while at the Disney parks. It’s not unprecedented that touring guests who are concerned about viral contamination would don masks when traveling. The practice may become more common and it doesn’t hurt.
How to Keep Your Social Distance
Social distancing did not use to be so crucial in staying healthy, but when you don’t know who can get you sick, and when illness can potentially be life-threatening you should be cautious. When the Disney parks reopen, there may or may not be institutional changes to encourage or enforce social distancing. We still don’t know what those changes, if any, would look like, but if virtual queues become more standard, be aware of where you linger while you wait to board an attraction. In all honesty, regardless of park attendance, the concept of social distancing seems impracticable and unsustainable at Disney parks. So, be prepared for an uncomfortable amount of contact if you are used to maintaining space between you and others you don’t know.
