3 Important Things You Should Ask Every Hotel

Planning your weekend getaway or summer vacation can be stressful especially when traveling with special needs or a disability.

I always tell people hiring a travel agent is key to making any vacation planning easier and they are free. Plus most agents like myself will work with you to make the planning as hands-on or off as you would like.

Should you decide to venture out on your own and plan your family vacation or girl’s weekend yourself let me share a few very important questions you should ask any hotel before booking.

3 Important Things You Should Ask Every Hotel

Question 1

The most important question to ask any hotel before booking is whether they are handicap accessible to all guests. If they say yes be sure to clarify what you need in terms of access. Whether it ramps in and out of the hotel or ground-level room. Make sure you are both on the same page.

Question 2

Ask them about room accessibility. Even if a hotel itself is handicap accessible does not mean the rooms are. Be sure to ask questions like are the showers walk-in or wheelchair accessible.? Are the doors wide enough? Are the beds lower to the ground? Make sure to find out if the rooms are suitable for your needs or that of your family. For me, it’s making sure the bathroom as either a walk-in shower or one that is wheelchair accessible as stepping up into a shower can be difficult for me.

Question 3

What are their emergency plans for a power outage or other technical problem? I know this may sound out of the box but I have planned vacations for clients who need medical equipment plugged in. If there is a power outage it could be life-threatening if there isn’t a backup generator. Be very clear on your needs whether talking to the hotel or your travel agent. You don’t want to spend your entire trip worrying about things but rather enjoy making life-long memories.
