If I have said it once I’ve said it a hundred times Disney is my home away from home. I love Disney. I love the magic, the joy, and the ability to enjoy all it has to offer because it’s an all-inclusive park. Disney is the leader in my opinion of how to handle guests with limited mobility. They just get it.
Whenever I talk with clients or anyone who mentions they have limited mobility and feel they can’t do Disney I smile and I’m off talking about all the things they can do. My go-to is Disney’s after-hour events, along with holiday cruises and other wonderful things that Disney offers.
I have been going to Disney for years and have come up with many tips and resources to help people go to Disney. Today I want to share a few ways I enjoy doing Mickeys’ Very Merry Christmas Party.
3 Ways to Make Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Fun
Tip 1 – Make A Plan
My first tip is and always will be to make a plan. This includes knowing show times, parade times, who you want to for characters, and of course whether or not you plan to rent a wheelchair/ECV. Having a plan allows you to maxix\ze your time and energy. It also helps keep you from running back and forth across the park.
Tip 2 – Closer Isn’t Always Better
After many fireworks show at Disney, I have learned closer isn’t always better when viewing fireworks. Truth is the further back you are the grander the view is. Plus you don’t get such a kink in the neck from looking up. Also, consider watching the parade from Adventureland they have some of the best handicap seating in the park plus tend to be a little less crowded than Main Street U.S.A. Don’t forget to catch a show this is a great way to rest for a few moments and catch your breath.
Tip 3 – Slow and Steady
Now I know this may contradict every other guide out there for doing Disney however, after years of going to Disney I have learned that sometimes slow and steady wins the race. By pacing yourself not only do you save your energy and quite possibly keep you from total exhaustion but it also sometimes allows for you to have special moments that you may have missed by rushing through everything. Like a few years back my son and I were strolling through the party on our way to catch Elsa and friends on the main stage when we happen to see to our delight Captain Jack. Of course, I being a Pirate Princess at heart was in complete awe. To our amazement Captain Jack, himself stopped for a moment to say hi. I was beside myself with delight. It was and is a moment I will cherish. So take your time and enjoy the moments that are happening.
Bonus Tip
My last tip is to be sure to get your free snacks. There are cookie stations all through the Magic Kingdom that provide you with a yummy fresh-baked cookie and yummy beverages to make your night complete. If you want a healthier snack they do offer apple slices and apple juice instead. Also, take advantage of all the holiday sights, sounds, smells, and merchandise that can be had. More importantly, make memories that will last not just for a moment but a lifetime.
